My intent is to mill a 9.525mm slot the length of my foam (3/8 inch).
I thought to use my 9.525 bowl bit, this is to receive a steel rod.
How do I restrict the bit to travel only on the x axis and progressively cut deeper? I thought pocket was a good idea as I could highlight the surfaces I wanted milled. Tried others but they all want to mill the outside as well.
Doing something wrong.

Thank you all,

I’m not sure I fully understand, but you may be looking for a trace operation, which can trace a line down the middle of your part with a configurable step-down.

We have some pretty good documentation on the CAM ops if you haven’t taken a look yet.
Hope this helps!
Thank you PBL, I was just reading a post and realized that trace was the way to go!I will also go read cam ops.

Baked Potato Lord, I always abbreviate that incorrectly.
Getting close to my solution, I am using trace, no offset. My issue seems to be something that I cannot solve here, The bottom of my cut is not a single line so the bit moves side to side just a bit.
I think that by going into Fusion and creating a single slice I might trick my mill into cutting the groove.
I am trying to inlay a 3/8 steel rod and my groove keeps getting too wide.
I included the KMZ where you can see the two lines it is following based on the shoulders of the drawing.
Hope this is the correct file, getting to be alot of them.

David,
No worries on the abbreviation. You can call me Josiah or Jo if that’s easier for you.
I know this isn’t a great answer, but you could force the mesh you export to have a line down the center by replacing the curve on the top of your part with a triangle.
.
As far as I know, there is not currently a way to trace a line that does not exist in your model.
I keep trying reply to the email notification…
There is the perfect solution. I will create a box on edge and use that to extrude and cut, giving me my line.(Did work perfectly.)
Will let you know. Thankyou.

Other odd issues but I will figure it out!
