Rough and contour crashing into model

Using 4.6, I am having a problem getting this to slice correctly. I have attached 2 workspaces, 1 is the full model and the other is just the section that I am having trouble with.

In the following screenshots you can see the rough operation crashing into the cone areas at the top of the crown. The red areas go to Z bottom and the green areas were on 1 or 2 layers. I have some ”leave stock” and ”leave stock Z” amounts in there. It is worse if left at 0.

I tried cutting off one of the cones and slicing it. I get pretty much the same result.

Contour also did this on the piece that I actually cut, but I can’t seem to repeat that now in the workspace. Here is the gcode section (bold) where I think it happened and a link to the full file.

One more issue. With “inside only” checked on contour I get full z bottom plunges along the bottom edge and the right side top edge but not on the left side. They are about every 4th or 5th pass.

Thanks so much for any help.

Jeff

Thanks for the workspace. I see the roughing issue and will try to figure out what’s going on.

the cone appears to be non-manifold. this is causing some issues processing the geometry properly.

here is a workspace with the surface normals repaired on the cone which allows the shadow calcs to succeed which allows roughing to know where the part boundaries are.

Thank you . I did manage to repair the cone also and a bunch of areas on the full model. The cones areas are still giving me problems. I’ve remodeled/redrawn that area several times and still end up with manifold issues. I’ll have to do a little more research.

Do you know why I am getting the plunges along some of the edges during contour when inside only is selected?

hard to say without seeing your workspace

It was too big to post here so it was the Dropbox link at the top of the first post. Sorry, I didn’t refer back to that when I asked. Let me know if this doesn’t work. Thanks again.

pushed a fix to the dev server. is there a reason you’re using inside only ?

All the edges except the crown are vertical. Used a taper ball end bit for the detail and a strait bit for clean edge using outline.
