Is it possible to create a toolpath for this type of model in Kirimoto?

I have a CNC with a rotary. I have tried several different ways with indexing, but as I rotate it the animation gets slower and slower and then finally stops.

Would I use the lath path? I tried roughing it on 4 sides and that eats away alot of material, but I have no idea how to finish it.

Thanks

the lathe operation is designed to finish a piece like this after roughing

If I do a series of Rough/Index operations with an index of 90 degrees with a 1/16 end mill I think the animate will finish. If I try to index it in 45 degree increments the animation locks up.

What type of tool would I use for the lath operation?

thanks for the quick replies !

Whats the step angle in the lath do?

tk

degrees rotation around A which is effectively the radial “resolution” of the computed path. step over is the X resolution of the path.

indexed animation is computationally expensive and I haven’t figured out a way to do it more faster. so it’s prone to running really slowly. or it could lock up if it runs out of memory.

I am having an issue with the Animation. I added a lath operation after my roughing operations and the animation hangs after 60.2% complete. Can you try it there when you get a chance? I tried to upload my ,kmz, but I got an error saying new users can’t upload files.

thanks

sure. either hop on the Discord server and DM me or email to [ sa at grid dot space ]

I emailed it to you, not sure if you received it.

thanks

It hasn’t come through. Check your messages and try attaching it again.

I am attaching it to the email. Are you getting my email responses without an attachment or what?

for posterity (and those watching at home), KM 4.1’s updated lathe mode along with a fix to the model (an off center part) has resolved the issue.

Thank you so much Stewart. Your support is the best I have ever encountered in my many many years of software work.
