Gridbot cost sanity check

I was pleasantly surprised adding up the parts list, coming in at $620 from the links provided.

I still need a bed surface, heater and rpi, but it looks like self-sourcing is coming in less than the cost of a Voron Formbot kit. I was expecting more.

Context: I have machine tools and have built a CNC router from scratch, my own design. I have a 3d printer (since August), and want a printer with multiple extruders. A Gridbot would be the first step.

Does my initial cost estimate make sense? Is ending up with a tool changer sound reasonable?

Thanks, Steve

Hi, Steve. I have not built a new 3D printer in a few years. The GridBot build and model has not been updated about the same amount of time. Multiple extruders was on my todo list, but I have too many competing projects of higher priority.

The Sovol SV08 may be a better starting point since there are already successful community mods with up to 6 changers.

Somehow I have never looked at Solvol. The SV08 looks pretty interesting. I’d miss out on building it, but I suspect adding multiple extruders will scratch that itch well enough. Thanks!
