Any discussion on horizontal entry feature?

Been using Kiri:moto for almost a year, and this is literally the only thing I’m missing so far.
I need to be able to make tapered sliding dovetail slots, where I absolutely cannot plunge into the work -

And I need to do it repeatedly, probably 30 of them a week.
I searched the forums and didn’t see any discussion on it - just wondering if this is ever going to be in the plans before I try (again!) to figure out what the heck is going on in FreeCad, or bankrupt myself on Fusion. :wink: If it’s in the cards with Kiri:Moto I’ll suffer with a jig for now.

Also just wanted to say, I was a dev once as well, and it’s pretty rare I use an app and think “Man everything makes sense where and why it is” or “Ok this isn’t working right, but I understand why and five minutes of fiddling got me around it”. But with Kiri:Moto it’s like every time. Very much a pleasure to work with. Stellar work, sir.

I take it you have an angled router bit to make the dovetail.

Why don’t you draw an object with a straight pocket but wider than the real piece, set step down to > max depth and then let it plunge next to your work then move into your wood?

so let’s say you have a 5cm wide board and you want to come in on the side. then make a 10 cm drawing center your work in the middle and let the pocket plunge on the sides it will plunge in air and go sideways into your stock.
Just be sure that your bit will be able to handle the feeds & speeds, it will remove a lot of stock in a short time.

Thanks - I thought about that but your mentioning it made me think about making an external cradle for the workpiece, which would
a) Leave a visual indicator where it plunged, and allow me to see something is wrong if it doesn’t follow that exact path
b) leave room all around the edges of the stock for screwing it down directly to the spoilboard (which I’m figuring out is always the best option if possible),
c) prevent blowout on the entry/exit of the stock

I never thought “do it with a jig, but make the jig for the CNC” before now. Thanks!
