Is there any way to add holes in the middle of an empty pocket in the part, through Kiri:Moto? We would prefer not to mill out the entire pocket or use tabs. Ideally, we would cut out the outline of the pocket, using a couple holes to secure the excess material.
I’m not 100% I understand. Do you have a pic or visual? There is usually a way to do something like this with a trace operation selecting the bottom of the hole to cut out. That operation alone will ignore the outer pocket in which it is contained.
adding to this thread…I am machining thin sheet metal parts…some are big…The tabs work well for small parts where I can clamp the edges .I would like to be able to add holes to the stock for to add hold down screws between the drilling operation and the outline operation…I envision a routine similar to the tab program or a modification of the tab program where one would add holes instead of tabs. I have tried the glue trick, and the tape trick but then I have to clean the part and the tool …any ideas???
We just added a drill from stock top option, which might be helpful for you. As a temporary workaround, you could add a hole to your mesh where you want it, or if you are machining multiple parts, you can add a part like this:
This sounds like a use case for the register operation. It could probably have functionality added so that the registration holes have configurable offsets. Is that what you are envisioning?
